The Fully Renovated Apartment is Painted in the Most Beautiful Colours of Spring 2025

Tord (32) comes from the picturesque Vang in Valdres, where he grew up with ski-in, ski-out right outside his door. In 2018, he made the move to the big city, Oslo. Although he trained as an electrician, he now runs Byggebror – a versatile craft company that covers everything from furniture restoration to building TV sets. Tord is a true handyman and an expert in IKEA hacks!

Newly Moved-in Family

Three years ago, Tord met his great love, Farida, who works as an IT consultant. Together, they bought an apartment in Tøyen and embarked on a full renovation that lasted for three intense months – while Farida was heavily pregnant! She was so dedicated to the project that she actually continued painting as contractions began.

Quality in Craftsmanship – and in Colours

Quality and true craftsmanship that lasts, smart solutions, and thoughtful details are important to Tord. This is reflected throughout the home, where he and Farida have combined functionality with fresh, spring-like colours that create both calm and character.

Yellow is a color that naturally evokes feelings of joy and optimism. By using yellow details in the interior, you can create an uplifting and inviting atmosphere, perfect for rooms where you want to encourage socializing and creativity.

Handmade Kitchen Cabinet Fronts in Solid Walnut

The kitchen is part of the living room, and Tord is especially happy with this section. The deep yellow wall color lifts the cabinetry and gives the room an exclusive touch. And not least – he made the kitchen fronts himself! Every detail oozes precision and quality, giving the kitchen a unique expression.

From all White Walls to The Power of Colours

Previously, Tord was used to light, white walls, but now he has truly discovered the power of colours. They bring out the furniture in a completely new way and create a cozy atmosphere. The ceiling paint has been a revelation – Tord is fascinated by how a lighter or darker shade on the ceiling can change the entire feel of a room.

Colour Tips from Jotun’s Colour Expert

Paint the ceiling

New and modern apartments, or fully renovated apartments like this one, often have clean, white walls to emphasize a neat and tidy look. However, as we see here, colours help define a personal expression while maintaining the clean style. One way this is achieved is by painting the walls and ceilings in variations of the same color, which reduces “noise” and enhances the airy and clean look.

The colours from the living room have been carried over into the bedroom, but turned on their head. When the colour of the ceiling is slightly darker than the walls, it creates a cosier feeling, and what could be more fitting for a bedroom?

Use colours to hide or enhance

Colours combined with wood, both in the flooring and kitchen and wardrobe cabinetry, also add an exclusive touch to the entire home. A great idea from this apartment is that some furnishings are highlighted by being made of wood, while some are “hidden” by being painted the same color as the wall. This is a great way to use colours and is a technique that preserves the tidy and clean feeling.

If you paint the furnishings the same color as the wall, the furniture takes on a less prominent role, and you get a tidy and clean expression.

Is blue the perfect bedroom colour? When the morning sun shines into this bedroom, the ceiling colour can actually appear brighter, as it does here. In the evening, it creates a cosy atmosphere! That's what's so fun about colours!

Personal Style – A Home with Character

Tord and Farida describe their style as simple but personal. They love the feeling that their home stands out, while also being functional and suited to their lives.
"It’s fun to see how the colours in the apartment are influenced by the daylight."
